A-Level Media Students showcased their end-of-year portfolios in front of an audience over one hundred strong as the college celebrated a successful night for its Media and English department.
The Premiere was solely dedicated to the successful work produced by the college’s higher educational students – with the objective to demonstrate how extremely hard they have all worked throughout the year – and to offer them an opportunity to present what has been produced by them as budding actors, actresses, producers and directors.
The audience – which included Professor Philip Thickett from Birmingham City University, college staff, ex-students, current pupils and parents alike – were entertained by outstandingly produced trailers, opening film sequences, magazine front covers and theatrical film posters from various groups at A and AS level. Popcorn and refreshments were also provided to add that extra classic cinematic aura to the night.
Philip Thickett, who is Head of the School of Media at Birmingham City University, gave an inspiring speech which expressed support and encouragement to the pupils regarding their future education and occupations. Holly Rowley, who is an ex-a-level Media and English pupil at Smith’s Wood – who is currently studying Media and Communications at Birmingham City University – equally stressed the importance of taking that next step into higher education and fulfilling your interests; as well as working hard to achieve the best chance of studying the course of your desire, at the university you wish and to achieve the job you dream.
The students are on course to achieve a 100% coursework pass rate for this academic year, which is an outstanding figure that will without doubt help pave their way to achieving impressive grades at A-Level and open doors to impress potential universities and employers in the future.
