College donates computer equipment to support schools in Africa

Smith’s Wood Sports College has donated 26 computers and 30 laptops to support the work of the IT Schools Africa program.

The donations mean students in Africa will have the opportunity to gain an education in IT.

Since 2004, ‘IT Schools Africa’ has sent over 50,000 computers, trained more than 750 teachers in IT, equipped 1,500 schools with computers and given access to IT to millions of children.

IT Schools Africa’s unique approach aims to transform lives both in the UK and Africa. In the UK we help adults and students develop skills and build confidence through our volunteer programmes.

The organisation reuses equipment and aims to give the computers at least another 5-6 years of life. When the computers do eventually come to the end of their life, partner charities in each country encourage the schools to send the equipment back, so they in turn can send it to a recycling facility in South Africa.

Smith’s Wood Sports College is delighted to support this program as it seeks to inspire and encourage pupils.
