Careers, Information, Advice and Guidance at Smith’s Wood Sports College

Smith’s Wood Sports College has its own Careers Advisor, Mrs O’Donnell who is a member of the Careers Development Institution.

At all stages of their school career students will have an opportunity to work with Mrs O’Donnell both in classroom activities and individual one to one interviews. Our aim is to offer all pupils a full package of support in order to help them make the right choices for a successful future.

Smith’s Wood Sports College uses with students in Year 11 as they make choices for Post 16.   It is an impartial ‘search & apply’ website that allows pupils to see all the options available to them.

Careers News

The Upper School Learning Resource Centre is resourced with careers information, 25 computers & are available for student use at some break and lunch times & before & after School.

Career interviews. All Year 11 Pupil Premium students receive a 1:1 careers guidance interview with Mrs. O’Donnell in the Autumn term.

Pupil Premium. Students in all year groups receive Careers interventions. 

Special Educational Needs pupils benefit from ‘Careers Trips’ such as the Botanical Gardens to find out about Eco systems and Horticulture.

ROA and careers for students takes place during guidance time for all Year 11’s

Smith’s Wood Sports College works alongside ‘inspiring the future’ to provide inspirational careers information & guidance to its students. Working in conjunction with local business men and women to raise aspirations for the students. Alan Lewis, local ICT Business Manager spent a morning with Year 9 ICT students talking about the different roles linked to ICT and how important ICT will be in shaping the future of all our lives from the cultivation of vegetables to social media and how we will do jobs in the future.

Smith’s Wood Sports College Post 16 Open Evening 15th October 2015 at 7pm. Come along and see what we have on offer in our Sixth Form. All welcome.

The Skills Show at the NEC. 20 November 2015.

All of our Year 10 & Year 12 students will be visiting the famous Skills Show at the NEC. It was a great success when we took our students last year and we hope our students enjoy it as much this year.

Thursday 21st January 2016 Careers Fayre alongside the year 11, 12 & 13 report evening for students and parents. Universities. Colleges. Engineering. Army. Hairdressing and others.

Week commencing 7th March 2016 is national ‘Careers Week’ The theme for guidance time that week will be all about ‘Careers’! Posters promoting careers will raise awareness around College & Guidance time will feature careers and highlight various Websites for students to use.

WOW! March 2016 World of Work day for Year 9 students. Representatives from all occupations and local businesses come into college to support year 9 students think about their future careers choices.
