At Smith’s Wood Academy, we believe that recognising and celebrating positive behaviour is one of the most powerful ways to build a thriving school community.
This week, we are placing an extra focus on positivity and encouraging staff to recognise students whenever they demonstrate our school values. From showing resilience in lessons to helping others around the school, every positive action deserves to be noticed and celebrated. L Huckstep reminded staff that positive points can be awarded both inside and outside the classroom, helping students see that their everyday actions make a difference.
Teachers are being encouraged to actively look for opportunities to praise students and award positive points linked to our values. Whether a student tackles a challenging piece of work, shows kindness to a peer, or simply goes the extra mile, these moments help reinforce the behaviours we want to see across our academy.
The positivity doesn’t stop in the classroom. Staff are also being encouraged to recognise students around the school site, from the corridors to social spaces, creating a ripple effect of encouragement and positive behaviour throughout the day.
To make the end of the week even more special, all positive points awarded on Friday will receive an additional boost through the “High Five Friday 25” initiative, giving students even more recognition for demonstrating our values.
We are also taking time to celebrate the adults in our community. Staff are encouraged to recognise colleagues who have gone above and beyond, helping to create a culture where kindness, support and appreciation are visible at every level of the academy.
By focusing on positive recognition, we hope to strengthen our sense of community, celebrate the achievements of our students and staff, and ensure that kindness, resilience and respect remain at the heart of everything we do.
