“Big Ideas Programme” – recognition for SWA students and staff from Tarmac

Tarmac’s Business Partner Mentor has provided positive feedback about the conduct of students and staff saying..

“I wanted to take a moment to congratulate your students and staff who have taken part in this year’s programme on some amazing Big Ideas and, of course, to the two teams who reached the Regional and National Finals.

I was really fortunate to have been able to join them at both finals and cannot commend the two teams enough on their incredible presentations and their wonderful behaviour whilst representing Smith’s Wood Academy.  It has been fabulous to see their research skills, creativity and confidence grow with each visit to the school, and I’ve had brilliant feedback from my colleagues who have seen them at the finals.  Their respectful conduct, within the team and in wider interactions including those with peers, judges, programme leaders and MPs was a credit to the school.  I’ve felt very proud to have been sat alongside Smith’s Wood’s teams this year.

Special recognition must go to Mrs Long who has led this initiative and put everything into making it a success.  Credit also to Miss Beaumont who stepped in and kept the students on track so that they were able to submit their final business plan over the last few weeks.

Miss Weightman and Mr Cruise, who brought Team Biocup down to London, were brilliant – they clearly have a great bond with the students and really helped giving them reassurance, support and plenty of encouragement.    The staff who have accompanied me at the various workshop sessions over the last month have also been very supportive and encouraging.

Overall, this has been a real team effort and an incredible achievement deserving a big shout out!”
