Proud to be an FMAT Academy

History has been made by our exceptional Year 9 rowing team after a remarkable performance at the North Solihull indoor rowing competition on 3rd March.

Our senior girls’ indoor rowing quartet – Joeliyn A, Nothando N, Salome A and Valery O – secured the gold medal, competing against both Year 9 and Year 10 teams from across the region. Despite being one of the youngest teams in the competition, they demonstrated incredible determination, resilience, and teamwork.

The event tested both individual strength and team coordination. Each rower completed a demanding four-minute individual row before combining their efforts in an eight-minute relay. The team rose to the challenge, delivering an outstanding performance that secured their place at the top.

This victory is particularly significant as it marks the first time an all-Year 9 team from Smith’s Wood has won the event. Their ambition was clear from the very beginning. On the journey to the competition, the team set their sights high, declaring: “Only gold will do.”

Their confidence, commitment, and support for one another paid off in spectacular fashion.

We are incredibly proud of their achievement and the sportsmanship they displayed throughout the competition. This historic win is a testament to what can be achieved through determination, teamwork, and a winning mindset
