Proud to be an FMAT Academy

Last week, Dee Long, Careers Lead at Smith’s Wood Academy took year 8 students to the Aim Higher event at the University of Birmingham.

The purpose of the event was to raise students aspirations and give them an insight into the world of higher education.

They enjoyed a full campus tour and first-hand knowledge of the students currently studying at UOB. They had so much fun creating their own perfumes in a chemical engineering session and talked at length about the importance and positive reasons why university can be so much fun and very advantageous in the students careers in the future.

Summarising the day, Dee said:

“Whilst year 8’s are only12/13 years old, this event proved it’s never to early to start thinking about their future! They were astonishingly mature and asked brilliant questions to the UOB students. I am so proud of our students and cannot wait to do this all again.”
