On Monday 3rd February, I took thirteen year 10 and 11 students to the world-famous Oxford University.
We were linked to Keble College as Oxford Uni is a ‘collegiate’ higher education provider and Oxford have 30-colleges that offer all different subjects to take. These students all have different aspirations but and I wanted them all to see how possible it is for students from North Solihull to be able to attend an elite university like the University of Oxford.
The students were treated to an amazing day that included a tour of the campus, meeting current students a chance to have a go at the famous ‘Oxford Union Debate’ They also took part in a Sociology/Psychology style seminar with an Oxford lecturer.
Students had lunch at Hogwarts, AKA Keble College Oxford, dining hall which is where they filmed the great Harry Potter films.
Many of the students lacked the belief to see themselves going to university yet alone Oxford University before they attended, but now, I am so pleased that SWA students can envision their futures, and Oxbridge is a positive option for all of them.
