Proud to be an FMAT Academy

We have celebrated UK Parliament this week and welcomed three fantastic visitors into school to support us.

On 27th November 2025, we had a visit from an alumni student, Kamren Grant who is the Chairman of Hodge Hill and Solihull Conservative Party and his colleague Georgia Peplow. Kamren left SWA eight years ago and has forged a career in local politics having left school with no GCSE’s at all. Georgia is an Education Officer for the Youth Parliament in the UK. During their visit, they both led assembly with Year 7 and introduced them to the world of Politics. Our year 7’s had their minds blown with how important it is for young people to know more about politics and have a voice. Students from the school council then had a one-one session with Kamren and Georgia talking about issues that matter to them.

Today we have had a very special visitor in school, the Rt Hon Liam Byrne, MP for North Solihull and Hodge Hill came to meet our student council to discuss how they can have more of a voice in school and outside of it.  Our students care deeply about their local communities and worry about crime, gangs, youth unemployment, the cost of living and so much more.  Ten students wrote to him personally as part of UK Parliament Week and he has taken those letters away to read and respond to our students.

These two days have been such a success for our students.  Staff are thrilled that so many took part and used their time to get across their thoughts and feelings about things that really matter them. Learning how democracy works in real life, with the people that endorse this is a huge part of our PSHE programme and Mrs Huckstep, Miss Weightman and I are so proud of the students conduct, ideas and passion for the things that really count.
